Dreamy Wedding Portrait Session on the Sea Island of Georgia

An Adventure-Filled Wedding in St. Petersburg, FL

In April 2022, Courtney and Justin planned to exchange vows at a romantic beach ceremony in St. Petersburg, Florida, followed by a yacht reception. However, their wedding day was filled with unexpected twists, which led me to capture their portrait photos on the Sea Island of Georgia a year later. Despite their meticulous planning for their wedding, Mother Nature threw a curveball with gloomy skies. We relocated from the rocky beach spot to another sandy area. To beat the storm, we shifted the ceremony time and informed their guests (luckily it was an intimate wedding). I convinced the couple to do a first look JUST IN CASE. I’m so glad we did! As we headed to the beach for portraits, the sky turned ominously dark. Suddenly, we dashed for cover, and the party bus arrived earlier than scheduled. Without that first look, their special moment would’ve been on the bus with everyone!

Rain, Wind, and Love: A Unique Wedding Ceremony

With the ceremony location in disarray and the clock ticking, the wedding planner team scrambled to find a plan B for the ceremony. They came up with a park that had a covered patio, but the backdrop options were… well, bathrooms, a playground, trash cans, or parked cars. Not exactly picture-perfect! We quickly ran through the ceremony and hopped over to the yacht for most of the portraits. By the end of the day, we were all drenched, chilly, and ready to let loose. The photos turned out great, and the couple loved them, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that their portraits could’ve been so much better if not for that damn storm. Their whirlwind wedding day turned into a rollercoaster ride that no one would ever forget.

A year later, I invited Courtney and Justin back to the beach on Sea Island of Georgia for a chance to take the wedding portraits they always deserved. When I picked the location for these anniversary portraits, I had no clue that it was so similar to their original rocky, gorgeous ceremony spot in St. Petersburg, Florida. As we pulled up to the beach for their “redo” photos, they both got super excited and told me all about the rock fiasco. It was everything they had hoped for on their big day, and I was thrilled to create those stunning photos for them, even if it was a year later. Now, they’ve got the best of both worlds: the crazy, chaotic, beautiful photos from the real day and the amazing wedding portraits a year later. I absolutely love going above and beyond for my couples, making sure they have memories to cherish forever.
